The slope of the roof is to avoid the beam hanging 16-1/2" from the middle of my garage ceiling, and still maintain the staggered-stud construction (2" x 4"'s on 6" plates, just like the walls). The angle cut off from the near corner that you can see is to accommodate the garage door bracket that swings up & down when you open & close the garage door (I chose not to impede the garage door function...in part to allow introduction of building materials to the building site in the garage!
